Discovery Communications-owned Spanish television channel Discovery Max has agreed a deal with pan-regional sports broadcaster Eurosport to offer the men’s and women’s finals from the French Open tennis tournament on digital terrestrial television.
Eurosport holds the Spanish rights to the ongoing grand slam and its agreement with Discovery Max means that both broadcasters will transmit the two finals from Roland Garros on June 7 and June 8.
The agreement comes as Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal continues his bid to win his ninth French Open title.
On Friday, Discovery Communications completed its acquisition of a controlling interest in Eurosport.
Discovery has now increased its stake in Eurosport from 20 per cent to 51 per cent as part of the deal, which was originally struck with the latter’s parent company, French commercial broadcaster TF1 Group, in December 2012.
