International media and entertainment company Discovery Communications has taken its free-to-air broadcast partner portfolio for the Olympic Games up to 20 through new agreements in Armenia and Kosovo.
The agreements cover free-to-air audio-visual rights for the 2018 winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Korea, and the 2020 summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Discovery has sublicensed to Armenian Public TV and Radio Televizioni i Kosovës exclusive free-to-air audio-visual rights for Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020.
The national free-to-air broadcasters will hold select digital rights for the content they broadcast on their linear television channels and select clip rights following the live events. Discovery’s international sports broadcaster, Eurosport, maintains rights to air all action on pay-television and through its digital and mobile services.
Discovery holds the exclusive multimedia rights for 50 countries and territories in Europe for the Olympic Games spanning 2018 to 2024 under a deal agreed with the International Olympic Committee in June 2015.
