The Discovery Networks Sweden division of media company Discovery Networks International has acquired exclusive rights to English club football competition the FA Cup.
Discovery has struck a sublicensing deal for the rights with Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster.
The length of the deal was not disclosed, but Discovery’s coverage will commence with the third round of the 2017-18 FA Cup, which sees Premier League teams enter the competition.
MTG in May struck its latest major football rights deal by reaching agreements for a host of English club competitions in the Nordic markets of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
MTG secured the exclusive Nordic media rights to the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the EFL Championship in long-term deals it said extend well into the next decade.
Discovery’s FA Cup coverage will open with Friday’s all-Premier League clash between Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton.
