Sportdeutschland.tv, the online sports channel of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), is in talks over a rights deal in Germany for handball’s 2017 Men’s World Championship.
The negotiations were reported by the Sponsors.de website after it emerged earlier this week that DAZN, the OTT sports subscription service operated by digital media specialist Perform, was also in talks over a rights deal for the tournament.
The negotiations are taking place with the tournament’s rights-distribution partner, beIN Media Group.
The 2017 World Championship will take place in France from January 11-29 but still has no rights partner in Germany.
Sportdeutschland.tv is hoping to acquire rights for all games at the tournament, the report added.
In March Sportdeutschland.tv acquired rights for the International Handball Federation’s qualifying tournaments for the 2016 Olympic Games.
