Telecommunications company Econet, which operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has signed a new rights deal with sports events promoter Matchroom Sport.
The rights will be exploited on Kwesé TV, the pay-television channel operated by Econet. The length of the new long-term rights deal, which gives Econet access to Matchroom’s entire portfolio of events, was not disclosed.
Coverage of Matchroom’s events, including major boxing bouts, will be streamed via the Kwesé Sports website. The coverage will also include darts, pool, snooker, golf, fishing, ping pong and tenpin bowling.
Kwesé Sports will also have access to Matchroom Sport's entire back catalogue of programming.
The coverage will be available in Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Réunion, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, the Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, St Helena, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
