The European Handball Federation has said it will switch to a new method of marketing its rights for showpiece competitions the EHF Euro and Champions League, adding that a “huge package” of rights will be available through a tender set to launch in September.
Currently, the Infront Sports & Media agency is responsible for the marketing of EHF Euro national team events, while the MP & Silva agency markets the media rights to club competition the Champions League.
However, EHF president Michael Wiederer said: “We have excellent partnerships with both agencies which have steadily improved European handball. We have discussed the situation with players, clubs and leagues, as both contracts – plus the contracts with (Champions League title sponsor) Velux and (Final4 host) the Lanxess Arena expire in 2020, therefore, the Executive Committee have decided to bundle the rights.
“The EHF will go to market with a tender for the EHF Euro media and marketing rights for the period from 2022 until 2030 and the Champions League rights for the term from 2020 until 2030 – this will be a huge package of rights, in a modular system and the tender will be published in September.
“Our sport has developed in all aspects in a positive way – the interest in all events has increased and the media landscape has changed. We are fit for the market, we can offer the market something interesting and the right moment has come to bring this huge package to the market.”
