International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has enhanced its coverage in Poland of football’s German Bundesliga and agreed a sublicensing deal with Polish pay-television operator NC Plus.
Eleven will now show the 6:30pm Bundesliga match on a Saturday, as well as the German Supercup and the four season-ending relegation play-offs.
The broadcaster already held exclusive rights to all other available packages through an agreement signed in February with DFL Sports Enterprises, the Bundesliga’s commercial rights distributor. The rights cover the Bundesliga and the 2.Bundesliga and run until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Eleven has agreed to sublicense on to NC Plus selected matches on an exclusive basis. The agreement begins this weekend and also runs until the end of the 2020-21 season.
The sublicensing deal will grant NC Plus rights to two games on 30 match weeks and three games during the other four match weeks. The remaining games will be shown on Eleven Sports channels.
NC Plus will also provide highlights of all Bundesliga matches across its magazine programmes.
Danny Menken, group managing director at Eleven, said: “So far this season we have seen huge demand for football on Eleven Sports. We aired up to 27 live matches every weekend during September and we had the number one and number two best performing sports channels in Poland on the opening weekend of the football season among viewers aged 16 to 49."
He added: “This sublicense agreement with NC Plus works for everyone – creating more choice for viewers and allowing us to manage our word-class portfolio more effectively. To ensure we continue to meet demand and deliver more live games to our viewers we are also considering launching a new channel this year with more details to follow.”
