Pay-television broadcaster ESPN Brasil has acquired rights to the European qualifying games for the Uefa Euro 2016 and 2018 Fifa World Cup national team football tournaments through a sublicensing deal with rights-holder and rival pay-television broadcaster Globosat.
The Maquina do Esporte website said Globosat’s SporTV channels will retain exclusive rights to games featuring some of Europe’s top teams such as Germany and Spain, but will share matches featuring other nations such as England, the Netherlands and Portugal.
Under the agreement, ESPN Brasil is also said to have secured rights to friendly games featuring certain European national teams that had previously been acquired by Globosat.
The new partnership will commence with the next round of European qualifiers for Euro 2016, which start on March 27.
