Pay-television sports broadcaster ESPN Brasil has agreed a partnership with media company Cinelive to provide coverage of English Premier League football games in cinemas throughout Brazil.
The agreement commenced with Saturday’s 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Middlesbrough, which was offered in 16 cinemas across 14 cities.
The partnership will run throughout the remainder of the 2016-17 season with selected games being provided in cinemas.
ESPN Brasil has this season elected not to sublicense English Premier League rights, instead providing full coverage of the competition for the first time in the country.
In September 2015, ESPN extended an exclusive rights deal in Brazil for the Premier League under a new agreement running for three seasons, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
