The Caribbean arm of sports broadcaster ESPN has agreed a deal with Asian sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports for rights to the International Cricket Council’s events and the Champions League T20 tournament until 2015.
The agreement covers the four years from 2012 to 2015, and includes rights for: the 2012 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, the 2013 Champions Trophy in England, the 2014 World Twenty20 in Bangladesh; the 2015 World Cup in Australia; as well as the 2012 and 2014 U-19 World Cups, and the 2013Women’s World Cup.
The deal covers rights across terrestrial, cable and satellite television, and new media.
ESPN Caribbean has also extended its rights deal with ESPN Star Sports for the Champions League T20 tournament for a further three years, from 2013 to 2015.
Coverage of both the ICC events and the Champions League T20 will be shown on the ESPN Caribbean and ESPN2 Caribbean channels, with live streaming also available on the ESPN Play internet service.
ESPN Star Sports, a joint-venture between ESPN and News Corporation, is the ICC’s global media rights distribution partner.
