Pay-television sports broadcaster ESPN Brasil has confirmed it will not sublicense English Premier League rights in the 2016-17 campaign, instead providing full coverage of the club football competition for the first time in the country.
In September 2015, ESPN extended an exclusive rights deal in Brazil for the Premier League under a new agreement running for three seasons, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
ESPN last season elected to share Premier League rights with pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports.
The television transmission of matches on ESPN, ESPN Brasil and ESPN+, combined with streaming provided through WatchESPN, means that all 380 games of the 2016-17 season will be available for the first time in Brazil. ESPN said the arrangement represents the most complete coverage of an international championship in Brazilian media history.
