ESPN Deportes will broadcast some games in Costa Rica’s top-flight Liga FPD, which has become the first professional soccer league in the Americas to resume action amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Starting on May 20, ESPN’s Spanish-language linear network in the United States will exclusively air the remaining four home regular-season games of leading Costa Rican team Deportivo Saprissa. Other games will be aired on May 27, June 3, and June 7.
ESPN is looking to capitalize on the return of live primetime soccer in the region with this deal.
The resumption of the German Bundesliga over the weekend resulted in record viewing figures for Fox Sports as well as other global broadcasters.
