The European Broadcasting Union consortium of public-service broadcasters has agreed a deal with Eurosport that grants the sports broadcaster multi-platform rights in Europe to a number of European Athletics-organised championships over the next four years.
The agreement, which will run until 2019, will include the 2016 European Athletics Championships, the 2017 and 2019 Indoor Championships and the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Team Championships.
The partnership also grants Eurosport exclusive rights in the UK to this summer’s European Athletics Championships, which will take place in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam from July 6-10.
Eurosport chief executive Peter Hutton said. “This deal demonstrates our commitment to athletics and the Olympic movement as we look forward to beginning our coverage of the Olympic Games across Europe in two years’ time.”
Eurosport, together with media and entertainment company Discovery Communications, its parent company, last year acquired rights in 50 European markets to four editions of the Olympic Games, from 2018 to 2024.
