Discovery-owned broadcaster Eurosport has agreed a deal for rights across Europe to the 2019 instalment of tennis’s Laver Cup competition.
The deal was brokered by the TEAM8 agency and includes multi-platform rights for Eurosport, allowing it to broadcast where it live coverage on Eurosport’s linear channels or on its Eurosport Play OTT platform.
France and the Netherlands are excluded from the deal, however. Existing rights deals are in place in the two countries with beIN Sports and Ziggo Sport, respectively.
TEAM8 president and chief executive Tony Godswick said: “With a sold-out stadium for the three days of the tournament, we are delighted fans across Europe will be able to watch Eurosport’s extensive coverage on television, and on Eurosport Player.”
Amazon signed a deal in 2018 for the streaming rights to Laver Cup tennis in more than 200 territories worldwide. Pay-television broadcaster Eleven Sports acquired the linear broadcasting rights to a handful of European territories last year.
The Laver Cup began in 2017 through a partnership between TEAM8 and the respective governing bodies of Australian and American tennis. Teams from Europe and the rest of the world will compete between September 20-22 in Geneva, Switzerland.
