The organising committee of the 2018 European Championships have confirmed that Eurovision, the European Broadcasting Union's production arm, is set to secure the host broadcasting services contract for the inaugural edition of the multi-sport event in Glasgow.
Glasgow 2018 said Eurovision Production Coordination is the preferred bidder with the city council set to discuss its appointment at a meeting on Thursday.
News of the contract comes as the EBU recently confirmed that additional free-to-air coverage agreements had been secured for the European Championships in Berlin and Glasgow. The EBU, which holds the broadcast rights on all platforms, said over 35 of its members have now signed up to show the first edition in the summer of 2018.
As part of the 2018 European Championships around 3,025 athletes will visit Scotland for six events – aquatics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon – while a further 1,500 athletes will compete in Berlin as part of the European Athletics Championships.
