Electric SUV off-road racing series Extreme E has struck a new streaming deal with Chinese digital media platform China Sports.
The channel, also known as zhibo.tv, will show all live race action from the series, as well as highlights, preview and review shows and magazine programmes. The deal has been signed ahead of Extreme E’s inaugural season next year.
Extreme E will race in five remote locations, which have all been affected by environmental issues such as climate change.
Magazine programmes that will be broadcast by China Sports will focus both on the racing and the long-term environmental impact Extreme E hopes to make through its race location-specific legacy projects, which include planting one million mangroves in Senegal and supporting a reforestation project in Amazon.
Ali Russell, chief marketing officer at Extreme E, said: “The programmes will of course be about racing and seeing our all-electric SUVs go head-to-head, but also about how as a championship we are driven by making a real difference to the environment and the communities we visit. With the subjects of electric cars and sustainability growing in popularity in China, we believe China Sports’ audiences will really enjoy this mix of content.”
Extreme E has already agreed broadcast deals with the BBC (UK), Fox Sports (US, Canada and the Caribbean), RDS (Canada), Fox Sports Asia (Southeast Asia), Fox Sports Australia, Mediaset (Italy), Sony India (Indian subcontinent), TVNZ (New Zealand), RTM (Malaysia), Dubai Sports (Middle East and North Africa) and BTRC (Belarus).
