Extreme Sailing Series continues upward trend for media coverage

Extreme Sailing Series organiser OC Sport has reported on another record-breaking year for media coverage of the stadium racing competition.

Through a report commissioned by OC Sport, the Havas Sports & Entertainment agency has said the series generated €44m ($48.4m) in global media value for 2014.

The 2014 figures show a 25.3 per cent increase in global media exposure compared to 2013, with television exposure accountable for 57 per cent of the overall final figure across all levels of output.

OC Sport said live television coverage in seven of the eight global venues visited, as well as internationally, along with year round coverage in dedicated sports and sailing magazine shows, news and the dedicated eight-part television series are all attributable for this increase.

In February, the Extreme Sailing Series agreed a rights deal with UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport for its ongoing 2015 season. OC Sport said that early signs in 2015 suggest the figures will improve yet again in next year’s report.

The 2015 Extreme Sailing Series commenced in Singapore from February 5-8 and is scheduled to take in a further seven events. The Chinese city of Qingdao will host the next round from April 30 to May 3.
