Extreme Sailing Series reports record media value for 2015 season

The Extreme Sailing Series has said it secured a record media value for its 2015 season, with the global series currently engaged in its 10th year.

According to a report conducted by media evaluation agency Repucom, creators and organisers of the stadium racing series, OC Sport, generated €49.5m ($56.5m) in global media value for the Series in 2015, compared to €44m in 2014.

Repucom said 1,141 hours of global television coverage was achieved, including 950 global news reports accounting for 73 per cent of the €49.5m media value.

There was also a 15 per cent increase in social media following, with OC Sport adding that 2016 videos have already received more than 6.2 million views.

Andy Tourell, Extreme Sailing Series event director, said: “In 2016 we have already seen a massive uplift in our engagement on social media, an area we are investing in, and we had more channels than ever (13 internationally) broadcast the first event of the year live from Muscat.”

Following the season-opener in Oman’s capital on March 16-19, the Extreme Sailing Series is heading to Qingdao, China for Act 2, which commences tomorrow (Friday).
