Spanish cable television operator Telecable has said it will close its OTT platform Tedi.tv after failing to secure football rights for the 2017-18 season.
The service is set to cease operating on August 31. According to the Digital TV Europe website, Telecable said it has been unable to offer football from LaLiga, the top division of the Spanish game, with a sustainable business model.
Tedi.tv users were able to access pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports’ three LaLiga channels and its main sports channel, but the service did not include the Partizado football product of telecommunications company Movistar.
After failing to secure Partizado, Telecable had offered three packages. Tedi Fútbol featured the Uefa Champions League, Europa League and LaLiga and Segunda Division football, while Tedi Liga offered LaLiga and Copa del Rey matches.
Tedi Uefa featured beIN’s Champions and Europa League coverage only.
