Fox acquires Serie A rights in Latin America

Pan-regional pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports Latin America acquired exclusive rights for the Italian Serie A in a three-year deal, from 2012-13 to 2014-15, with the MP & Silva agency.

The deal covers rights across Latin America including Brazil. Fox is launching a new pay-television sports channel in Brazil in February. The channel’s programming will include South American club football tournaments the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, and English football’s Premier League.

Carlo Pozzali, chief executive for the Americas region at MP & Silva said: “The ties between Latin American soccer and Italian soccer run deep, with over 100 Latin American players competing in Serie A including Alexandre Pato, Robinho, Julio Cesar and Maicon from Brazil, Javier Zanetti, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Rodrigo Palacio and Fernando Gago from Argentina, Diego Forlán and Edinson Cavani from Uruguay, Pablo Armero and Mario Yepes from Colombia, Arturo Vidal, Mauricio Pinilla, David Pizarro and Pablo Osvaldo from Chile, Juan Manuel Vargas from Perú, Rafael Romo from Venezuela, and Marcelo Estigarribia from Paraguay among many others.”
