Fox Soccer, the football-dedicated pay-television channel that is operated by US network Fox, has acquired rights for a new summer club tournament featuring some of world football’s leading clubs.
According to the Sun Sentinel newspaper, Fox Soccer, which will close later this year to be replaced by general entertainment channel FXX, will show 11 of the 12 matches during the inaugural edition of the International Champions Cup from July 27 to August 7.
Fox struck the one-tournament deal with the competition’s promoter and operator, RSE Ventures.
The newspaper said that the eight-team competition would feature Juventus and Internazionale from Italy, Real Madrid from Spain and the Los Angeles Galaxy from the US. According to the Reuters news agency, Turkish club Galatasaray, Italian club AC Milan and two clubs from the English Premier League are also in talks to participate in the tournament.
Full details of the teams and venues are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks, but it has been reported that the competition will start in Europe and the final will take place in Miami, US.
