North American pay-television channel Gol TV acquired rights to the Argentina national team’s friendly matches until 2014, in a deal with rights-holders the Full Play Group.
The deal covers exclusive rights for more than a dozen Argentina friendly matches between now and the start of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based pay-television broadcaster, holds the rights in the US and Canada to Argentina’s 2014 World Cup qualifying matches, as part of a wider deal with Full Play, which is a South America-based agency.
As reported in the TV Sports Markets newsletter in August last year, Al Jazeera acquired rights in the US and Canada to all 2014 South American World Cup qualifying matches from Full Play (TV Sports Markets 15:15). Since the acquisition, Al Jazeera, which does not yet have a channel of its own in North America, has shown the matches via a pay-per-view service.
