Gretzky set to join Turner Sports as a lead NHL analyst

Turner Sports has prevailed in a high-stakes push to land hockey icon Wayne Gretzky as a lead analyst for its forthcoming National Hockey League coverage, according to industry sources and multiple reports, giving its new domestic rights package a major lift.

Coming just weeks after Turner Sports completed a seven-year, $1.6bn (€1.32bn) deal to land NHL rights that start this fall, the network has headed off a rival challenge from ESPN, which has its own new NHL rights deal, to land league’s all-time leading scorer in the prominent on-air role.
