French media company Groupe AB has acquired rights to the Drone Racing League, with the competition set to host its first event in France in June.
Groupe AB becomes the DRL’s first broadcast partner in the region. The length of the deal was not disclosed.
The deal coincides with the announcement that the Allianz Riviera stadium, home of Ligue 1 football team OGC Nice, will host its first DRL event on June 16. French pilot Dunkan Bossion will be among the competitors at the Nice event.
Groupe AB joins the DRL’s media distribution portfolio, which spans more than 75 countries around the world. Groupe AB’s coverage will begin with reruns of the series’ 2016 and 2017 World Championship seasons on pay-television channel AB1 in France and ABXplore in Belgium.
