US pay-television broadcaster HBO has acquired rights for the professional debut of Chinese two-time Olympic boxing gold medal-winner Zou Shiming.
The flyweight fighter’s bout with Mexican Eleazar Valenzuela will be shown on a delayed basis on the HBO 2 channel on April 6 at 2pm US eastern time.
The event, which will take place in Macau, will also feature two world title fights that will be available on HBO 2. Roman Martinez will defend his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior lightweight title against Diego Magdaleno while Brian Viloria, the WBO and World Boxing Association flyweight champion, will take on Juan Francisco Estrada.
HBO struck the deal with Top Rank, the promotional company that is operating the event.
“This is an exciting boxing initiative and we’re delighted to be the US television home for this international event,” Kery Davis, senior vice-president of programming at HBO Sports, said.
