WealthTV picks up more boxing rights

US broadcaster the Wealth Television Cable Network has acquired live domestic rights for a 12-event package of boxing from the Hennessy Sports and Gym Promotions promotional companies in deals that will start immediately and run until the end of 2013.

WealthTV will show six events from Gym Promotions’ ‘Fast and Furious’ series, which features fighters from North America, and six ‘Next Generation’ events staged by UK-based Hennessy Sports.

“As we ramp-up, we anticipate airing 20 to 30 live events in 2013,” WealthTV chief executive Robert Herring said.

WealthTV’s cable channel has broadcast selected fights before, and has also streamed live boxing for free on its website, but last month the broadcaster aired its first pay-per-view event – the Anthony Mundine v Bronco McKart North American middleweight championship fight.
