Hockey Australia secures free-to-air exposure

Hockey Australia, the sport’s governing body in Australia, has agreed a rights deal with public-service broadcaster the ABC, according to the Australian Financial Review newspaper.

The agreement will ensure free-to-air coverage of all of the national body’s biggest events until the end of 2014.

Hockey Australia will not receive any rights fee from the ABC, but the governing body will not have to pay production costs for the coverage, as was the case in previous years.

“From an exposure point of view this is an important deal for us and an example of what can be done [by Australian sports],” Hockey Australia chief executive officer Cam Vale said. “It really helps us in commercial terms, both in terms of raising awareness of the sport and also providing some exposure for our existing sponsors.”
