Home games of Liga MX’s Querétaro remain on Imagen TV despite change of owner

The homes matches of Liga MX team Querétaro will continue to be shown free-to-air on Mexico’s Imagen Televisión network, despite the ongoing sale of the club from the family of businessman Olegario Vázquez Aldir to the Grupo Caliente, Mexico’s biggest betting company.

Imagen TV’s parent company, Grupo Imagen, is part of the Grupo Empresarial Ángeles conglomerate owned by Vázquez Aldir’s family. Grupo Empresarial Ángeles acquired Querétaro in 2014.

In a tweet yesterday (Wednesday), Vázquez Aldir moved to quash any speculation that the new owners would switch broadcast platform. Clubs in the Liga MX sell their own television rights.

Grupo Imagen also tweeted a statement which confirmed it would continue to show Querétaro home matches for a further two years, which includes four separate tournaments.

In each calendar year, Liga MX has an Apertura season, which is played in the summer, and a Clausura season, played in the winter.

Grupo Caliente, which is controlled by businessman Jorge Hank Rhon, already owns Liga MX club Tijuana (known locally as Xolos of Tijuana) and second-tier club Dorados of Sinaloa. The company also has interests in real estate and entertainment.

In 2019, there are 19 teams in the Liga MX. Querétaro currently sits fourth.
