The International Cricket Council has awarded digital clip rights in North America and Pakistan for its events over a four-year period, from 2016 to 2019.
The rights in the US and Canada were awarded to Times Internet, the online and mobile arm of Indian publishing company Times Group.
According to the Economic Times newspaper, the deal gives Times Internet exclusive rights to clips of pre-match, in-match and post-match coverage. The deal begins with coverage of the ICC World Twenty20, which will start in India next month.
In Pakistan, mobile phone company Khaleef secured exclusive clip rights for all ICC events. Khaleef emerged as the successful bidder for near-live clips during matches along with pre-match previews and post-match clipped highlights and live score updates. The rights will be exploited via Khaleef-branded web portals and mobile applications.
The deals will cover the 2017 Champions Trophy and Women’s World Cup; the 2018 U19 Cricket World Cup, Cricket World Cup Qualifier and Women’s World Twenty20; and the 2019 Cricket World Cup, after this year's World Twenty20.
