ICC expands live streaming service for World Twenty20 Qualifier

The International Cricket Council has announced it will live stream 16 matches from the World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013 (WT20Q) tournament, which commences in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

The matches from the group stages of the tournament will be live-streamed on the ICC’s official website.

The coverage of the WT20Q UAE 2013 follows the recent live-streaming of the Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier Ireland 2013, and 18 World Cricket League Championship fixtures from around the globe, including Afghanistan’s historic qualification to the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

In addition to the 16 streamed matches, the last four days of the tournament will be broadcast around the globe by the ICC’s broadcast partner, pan-Asian pay-television broadcaster Star Sports, and its licensees.

ICC chief executive David Richardson said: “The ICC has been committed to shining a brighter light on the leading associate and affiliate teams through showcasing such tournaments on our digital platforms. The live-streaming from the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 illustrates our continued support for teams outside of the Test-playing nations, and also plays an important part of the ICC’s global strategy.”

The WT20Q UAE 2013 runs from November 15-30. Sixteen teams will compete for six places at the 2014 World Twenty20 tournament, which will be hosted in Bangladesh from March 16 to April 6.

The West Indies are the reigning World Twenty20 champions having won the 2012 event in Sri Lanka.
