Technology company Intel has acquired Replay Technologies, which specialises in providing 3D video technology to US sports broadcasters.
The deal for the Israeli company is worth $175m (€160m), according to media reports.
Replay's technology was used during the recent National Basketball Association All-Star Weekend, with a total of 28 ultra high-definition cameras used. It was also used during coverage of the NFL American football league’s Super Bowl last month.
“Intel has been collaborating with Replay since 2013 to optimise their interactive, immersive video content on Intel platforms,” Intel said. “Technology now plays an unprecedented role in sports – and we’re just getting started.”
