Kogel to replace Burgener as Constantin chief

Fred Kogel will replace Bernhard Burgener as the chairman of the management board at media company Constantin Medien, which operates German sports broadcaster Sport1.

Burgener is stepping down from Constantin’s board after seven years to concentrate on managing the company’s Highlights Communications subsidiary, which operates film, sports and event marketing operations.

Kogel, currently a board member with responsibility for the areas of production, process management and integration at Constantin, will replace Burgener on January 1, 2016.
Constantin said that the change was happening “in view of increasing challenges in the areas film and sports marketing.”

The company added that Constantin’s corporate targets had been achieved under Burgener, including a restructuring of Sport1.

Additionally, Olaf Schröder, the chairman of Sport1 since October 2014, has been appointed as a member of Constantin’s management board with responsibility for sports, with effect from January 1.

“Bernhard Burgener has successfully completed the transformation of Sport1 into a 360-degree platform,” the company’s supervisory board chairman Dieter Hahn said. “It is now important for the group as a whole that he will be concentrating on the management of Highlight Communications and its film and sports marketing business.

“In Olaf Schröder, the management board has gained a new member who is highly regarded throughout the industry as an experienced sports media expert. He has got the personality which is essential for the further success in the development of our sports segment.”
