Lega Serie A, the governing body of the top division of Italian football, and its strategic media rights advisor, the Infront Sports & Media agency, have launched a tender for the international broadcast rights to Serie A.
The exclusive international package for the three seasons from 2015-16 to 2017-18 includes rights for Serie A and Serie B, the second tier of domestic football, exploitable in territories outside of Italy. The tender runs through to October 15.
In the US/Canada, South America, Indonesia and Middle East & North Africa markets, Lega Serie A will “directly verify” the actual distribution of Serie A rights in order to ensure that it is effectively broadcast to uphold the value of the league’s brand.
The two parties said the possible transmission of content via live web broadcast will be considered, while Lega Serie A reserves the right to distribute footage on a non-exclusive basis for deferred broadcast, for example through the potential implementation of its own channel on video-sharing platform YouTube.
The commercialisation of all broadcast rights related to all competitions organised by Lega Serie A will be completed by additional tenders covering exclusive packages concerning the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italia and the Primavera youth competitions.
Non-exclusive rights packages for the Italian territory will be launched at a later stage.
