The French Professional Football League (LFP) has launched websites to showcase content from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 that include a new feature called MyLigue.
The two sites — www.ligue1conforama.fr and www.dominosligue2.fr — show match and goal highlights, delayed until the completion of the matchday.
Users are able to use the sites to register for MyLigue, which delivers free access to exclusive content such as news, interviews, statistics, club profiles, player profiles and archived highlights.
The MyLigue feature also allows users to customise the websites’ interface, including by favourite club.
The launch of the two new sites was accompanied by a redesign of the LFP’s corporate website and Ligue 1’s English-language website, which now also includes the MyLigue feature.
The revamp of the English-language site is part of the league’s international development strategy.
The LFP has been considering the broadcast of certain matches from Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 in some countries through a dedicated OTT platform. An initial free access model is thought to be a possibility, followed by a monthly subscription or the purchase of matches on a pay-per-view basis.
Didier Quillot, the LFP chief executive, told L’Équipe last year: “We need to improve the international visibility of Ligue 1 in certain territories. This OTT app will especially create a bit of competition where the league is not well distributed or at all, in countries like Poland and Belgium.”
BeIN Media Group holds the Ligue 1 international rights in six-year deal from 2018-19 to 2023-24 worth an average of €80m ($87.9m) per season. However, Quillot has publicly expressed his belief that the deal “undervalues” the rights and has attempted to renegotiate the terms with beIN.
