Maltese telcos Melita and Go have cast aside their rivalry in the sports rights market by joining forces to launch what they claim will be the best premium sports package in Europe.
Through the partnership, eight new, HD sports channels will be offered to both Melita and Go pay-television subscribers under the banner of Total Sports Network.
The new channels will air top flight football including the English Premier League and FA Cup, Italian Serie A, Uefa Champions League and Europa League, German Bundesliga and the domestic Premier League; as well as motor-racing championship Formula One, motorcycling series MotoGP and a host of other sports.
Harald Roesch, chief executive of Melita, said: “We have agreed to pool our rights with Go for the benefit of all our customers who follow sports. The breadth of premium sports we’ll be offering will be unparalleled in Europe and marks another step forward for us in delighting our customers.”
Nikhil Patil, chief executive of Go, added: “This has been a long time request from customers, and we are glad to be in a position to make this happen.”
Melita and Go are set to reveal further details behind the new service in the coming weeks.
