Spain-based broadcast production and rights agency Mediapro has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence video platform, AIProclips, developed in collaboration with computing giant IBM.
AIProclips uses AI technology to automatically generate highlight clips in real time, allowing broadcasters and other third-party providers to share near-live content from a match while it is being played.
Spain’s LaLiga has already carried out tests using the new technology during matches this season, and becomes the first official partner to incorporate AIProclips into its content strategy.
The AI technology analyses the game while it is in play, and IBM boasts that it is able to take into account subjective criteria when generating clips. The client – which could be a broadcaster, sponsor, digital media or rights-holder – is able to set parameters for the AI to look for, such as types of shot or action, following a particular player, or goals scored late in a game or that swing a result.
AIProclips then packages the content in near-real time, allowing short-form video content to be shared almost immediately after the action has taken place on the pitch.
María Carmen Fernández, director of innovation and new business at Mediapro, said: “Artificial intelligence provides us with great opportunities to optimise production processes, but it also opens the door to the development of a large number of new products aimed at responding to the needs of hyper-segmentation of audiences and the design of personalised solutions.”
