Spanish agency Mediapro has filed a legal complaint against Barcelona and Sandro Rosell, the former president of the Spanish Liga football club.
The complaint relates to allegations that Rosell (pictured) and Barcelona were involved in the disclosure of the agency’s confidential business operations, including Mediapro’s media-rights strategies and negotiations.
According to Mediapro, Robert Cama, the agency’s former IT manager, sent emails and other private information from founder Jaume Roures directly to Rosell. Mediapro said that the activity occurred when Rosell was a director of the club, before he became president.
Mediapro said that it has been aware of the alleged situation since October 2011, when the company fired Cama, who is now working as an IT manager at Barcelona. Mediapro has presented its case to a preliminary court in Barcelona, and Roures will appear on court later this week to testify on behalf of the company.
Barcelona responded to the development by saying that the club “is oblivious to the events that have led to this lawsuit, which arose between 2009 and 2011, so will immediately begin the procedure for requesting the case file and all the aspects that refer to the institution.”
The club added: “Barcelona makes itself available to the judiciary to help clarify the facts that have led to the complaint. In addition, the board has commissioned a report on this case from the directorate general of the club to find out the real facts. The club reserves the use of all legal actions that serve to preserve the prestige and good image of Barcelona.”
