Spanish agency Mediapro has been ordered to pay rival Canal Plus €32m ($35.8m) after a court found that the latter had overpaid on a football rights deal in the country.
The case, which was heard by the International Court of the Paris Commerce Chamber, ruled that pay-television operator Canal Plus was overcharged for its coverage of the Spanish top-tier Liga and Copa del Rey knockout tournament for three seasons, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.
The court said Canal Plus had overpaid for the first two seasons in its three-season contract. Canal Plus was previously majority-owned by media company Prisa before becoming wholly-owned by telco Telefónica last year.
Spanish newspaper Marca said Mediapro had already paid the €32m to Canal Plus following an earlier court ruling.
