Spanish commercial broadcaster Mediaset has acquired exclusive rights to the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
The deal continues Mediaset’s run of broadcasting football’s major events: it also covered the 2014 and 2010 World Cups, Euro 2016 and 2012.
Commenting on its latest World Cup rights deal, Manuel Villanueva, general director of content at Mediaset España, said: “Once again having one of the most appreciated content packages of television worldwide is the best news we can give our audience, which has been accompanying us unconditionally for almost 10 years with these high-level sports appointments. The financial position of the company and its always present criterion of profitability makes it possible that it be so.”
The 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15. The draw for the finals took place in Moscow on Friday with Spain placed in Group B alongside Portugal, Morocco and Iran.
