Spanish broadcaster Mediaset has agreed to resume coverage of the Copa del Rey domestic club football competition after reaching a fresh agreement with the Mediapro agency.
Mediaset will broadcast five matches from the latter stages of the 2017-18 Copa del Rey, beginning with the clash between Leganés and Real Madrid later today (Thursday).
The Television Hispana website said the agreement with Copa del Rey rights-holder Mediapro also includes the four semi-final games, but not the final.
Spanish newspaper Marca last month reported that Mediaset would not broadcast the Copa del Rey as planned amid a dispute over its rights deal with Mediapro. Marca said Mediaset would not broadcast its scheduled matches as initially agreed conditions behind the deal had not been met.
Mediaset has broadcast the last three finals of the Copa del Rey through its commercial channel Telecinco, but this season’s game is set to be televised solely by Mediapro’s digital-terrestrial broadcaster Gol.
