Mediaset snaps up 2014 World Cup rights in Spain

Spanish commercial broadcaster Mediaset has acquired rights for free-to-air television coverage of the 2014 Fifa World Cup national football team tournament.

Live coverage of 25 matches during the tournament in Brazil will be split across Mediaset’s channels – Telecinco, Cuatro and Energy.

The rights include exclusive coverage of every game featuring the Spain national team, which will be hoping to defend its title after winning the 2010 World Cup.

Mediaset struck the deal with Fifa, football’s global governing body.
