Sports broadcaster ESPN International has acquired rights for Mexico’s two leading annual tennis events in the tournaments’ home market, as well as across Central America and the Caribbean.
The deal with MexTenis, the operator of the competitions, will run for 10 years, from 2016 to 2025.
The first tournament covered by the deal is the inaugural Abierto Mifel, which will conclude in San Lucas tomorrow, with coverage being shown on television and digital platforms. The other tournament covered by the deal is the Abierto Mexicano, which takes place in Acapulco every February.
Under the terms of the agreement, ESPN in Mexico has exclusive rights to both tournaments. In addition, the Abierto Mifel will be shown on ESPN in Central America and the Caribbean.
ESPN has been the exclusive broadcaster of MexTenis events in Mexico since 2003.
