The Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent) has acquired media rights in the Nordic region to the Professional Darts Corporation’s new Home Tour and is showing action on its Viaplay streaming service.
Nent already holds the exclusive Nordic rights to the PDC World Darts Championship, Premier League Darts, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts. It will now show the Home Tour live every day until mid-May on Viaplay.
The Home Tour was announced last week and involves players competing against one another from their respective homes in the absence of regular-season events due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Media group AMC Networks recently acquired rights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while international streaming service DAZN signed a deal covering each of its nine markets. The tournament is also being streamed on the StreamAMG-powered PDCTV streaming platform to all registered users for free.
The Home Tour sits separately from events on the usual calendar and, as such, the Matchroom Sport agency has been signing up new media-rights deals for the PDC event.
In November, the PDC announced Copenhagen, Denmark as the second destination on this year’s World Series of Darts calendar. The Forum Copenhagen was due to host the two-day Nordic Darts Masters on June 12-13, but due to Covid-19 the event is now set to take place later this year.
The Nordic Masters will be run by the PDC in partnership with Nent, which will broadcast the event across Scandinavia.
