Virtual reality broadcast technology company NextVR has moved to widen its international reach by partnering with internet company Google and broadening its existing relationship with North American basketball league the NBA.
NextVR’s sports content was previously only available through Korean consumer electronics company Samsung’s Gear VR headsets. However, it has now struck a deal with Daydream, Google’s platform for mobile VR, covering the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Australia.
Fans with a Daydream View headset and Daydream-ready phone can access the content through the NextVR app.
As part of its multi-year partnership with the NBA, NextVR has been broadcasting one live game per week and delivering video-on-demand games and highlights in virtual reality in the US. To help provide additional content to existing fans and attract new consumers, NextVR and the NBA are now offering video-on-demand games and highlights in virtual reality internationally, excluding China.
Fans with either a Daydream View or Samsung Gear VR headset can download the free NextVR app and access the NBA Channel.
