Norwegian handball body to launch new online channel

The Norwegian Handball Federation is planning to launch its own online channel after an agreement with Norwegian commercial and pay-television broadcaster TV2 for internet coverage was curtailed.

Since 2011, TV2’s Sumo platform has been showing coverage of the federation’s events and matches.

“We will create a product that is better than what has previously been shown on network television and we are working hard to get everything ready before the league starts,” Norwegian top-tier Topphåndball chief executive Hein Barthold told the Stavanger Aftenblad newspaper.

“The main reason why we are now establishing HandballTV.com is the clubs' desire for a greater ownership of their own product,” he added. “It should not be ignored that TV2 in the past few years have been unsure whether they will prolong the Sumo agreement with us because this cooperation has given them relatively expensive production costs.”
