The Olympic Channel has announced a carriage deal with Swiss telecoms operator Swisscom ahead of Lausanne’s staging of the 2020 winter Youth Olympic Games.
With the Youth Olympics taking place from January 9-22, the Olympic Channel will now be available through Swisscom TV, the IPTV service, in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Customers with the Swisscom TV UHD Box will be able to access the Olympic Channel app.
In addition to comprehensive coverage of Lausanne 2020, the Olympic Channel offers an array of additional content. This includes documentaries on the journey of the Swiss men’s ice hockey team at PyeongChang 2018 in Olympic Winter Tales and Switzerland’s 2014 Olympian and freestyle skier, Mirjam Jaeger, exploring the local sports culture of Pyongyang in ‘Running in North Korea’.
Swiss public-service broadcaster SRG-SSR holds free-to-air rights to the 2020 summer Olympic Games in Tokyo under a sublicensing deal agreed with Discovery, the international media company that owns Eurosport, back in July 2016.
The IOC has retained Tokyo 2020 clip rights in 68 territories that to exploit on the Olympic Channel during the Games, as exclusively reported by SportBusiness, and as it seeks to drive greater engagement for its digital media platform.
