Richard Carrión, the International Olympic Committee’s chief negotiator of broadcast deals outside Europe, has announced his resignation from the body following his failed bid for the presidency.
The Puerto Rican banking executive has quit his different positions within the IOC, including that of chairman of the organisation’s finance commission.
He has held that position since 2002, but the IOC said that Carrión had agreed to continue to lead the media rights negotiations outside Europe until the Sochi 2014 winter Olympic Games.
The IOC said that Carrion’s continuing presence would “assist in the transition process”.
Thomas Bach secured the IOC presidency on September 10, receiving 49 votes in the second round to gain a winning majority. Carrión finished second in the six-man race with 29 votes.
Bach has asked IOC member Ser Miang Ng to chair the next meeting of the finance commission in December.
The composition and structure of all IOC commissions and working groups will be reviewed after Sochi 2014.
