Australian telco Optus has renewed an agreement for rights to football’s English Premier League.
The new three-season agreement covers the 2019-20 to 2021-22 seasons, with Optus Sport to provide exclusive live coverage of every Premier League match. The deal also includes full on-demand, replay and short-form rights for all matches.
Optus acquired rights for the Premier League in November 2015 in a deal that covers the 2016-17 to 2018-19 seasons. Optus dislodged pay-television operator Foxtel as the league’s rights-holder in Australia.
In other news, Optus has announced a new direct-to-consumer subscription option for all Australian viewers to access Optus Sport ahead of this summer’s Fifa World Cup in Russia.
Optus Sport, which will offer coverage of all 64 matches from the tournament, will be available for the first time to non-Optus subscribers and Optus customers who were previously not eligible, for A$14.99 (€9.35/$11.28) per month via Google Play and the App Store.
