Orioles granted injunction extension in MASN dispute

Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles have been granted an extension to an injunction preventing the league from forcing the franchise to pay rival the Washington Nationals higher payments from their jointly-owned US regional cable-television broadcaster MASN.

The New York Supreme Court granted the extension to the injunction, according to the Associated Press news agency.

Baltimore has a controlling stake in MASN, which also broadcasts Nationals games following an agreement that was struck when the franchise relocated from Montreal to Washington.

On June 30, the league’s arbitration panel ruled that the Orioles owed the Nationals an additional $20m (€15m) per year.

However, the Orioles questioned whether the panel was impartial, and the injunction has prevented any further payments from the franchise to the Nationals until the issue has been resolved.
