PGA Tour signs Korean digital media partnership

US men’s golf organisation the PGA Tour has entered into a digital media partnership with Korean sports media group Eclat.

Under the agreement, the PGA Tour and Eclat will join forces to launch the first Korean-language version of PGATour.com. PGA Tour Digital has created and will operate the infrastructure for the site, while Eclat will produce and manage all content. This marks the first time the Tour has undertaken such an arrangement for an international version of its website.

The arrangement expands the Tour’s working relationship with Eclat, which is also helping to distribute PGA Tour Live coverage on Naver and Daum, the two largest web portals in Korea. PGA Tour Live’s featured groups and holes are made available for free on both platforms.

Naver and Daum also distribute localised short-form video clips and articles. Localised content is also being created specifically for the Tour’s Korean audience on social media platform Facebook.

Luis Goicouria, PGA Tour senior vice-president for digital platform and media strategy, said: “With the tremendous popularity of golf in Korea and the rising number of young stars emerging on Tour, we continue to focus on providing our Korean audience with compelling content that resonates with their interests in golf and the PGA Tour.

“This includes features that will give fans the opportunity to get to know these young stars better, such as 2017 Players Championship winner Si Woo Kim (pictured).”
